When each of Israel's previous two lockdowns ended, the number of attempted car thefts jumped, and that trend is expected to continue into 2021, according to data from the Ituran car protection company.
The vehicles most often targeted by car thieves were jeeps, which comprised some 32% of all stolen vehicles.

The company also reported that in 60% of the car thefts in 2020, the thief had obtained the keys to the vehicles, and that 13% of the cases involved smashing the car windows. In 14% of the cases the thieves connected to the car's computer systems, and 10% of thefts were carried out by having the cars towed or loaded onto trailers.
Another 3% of thefts in 2020 entailed carjacking or took place when the owners left their keys in the ignition while temporarily outside their vehicles.
