In an interview in Arabic, Tibi said that the JAL "opposes the promotion of the LGBTQ+ phenomenon. If there is any legislation to promote [their interests] I, alongside every JAL member will vote against it."
The Aguda – Israel's LGBT Task Force slammed Tibi's remarks saying, "LGBTQ+ is not 'a phenomenon' – these are people and they are everywhere, including in Arab society.
"It's sad that those professing to represent a discriminated minority engage in such blatant discrimination against another minority. Gay members of the Arab sector deal with an unbearable reality of oppression and hate simply because of who they are, and such statements only fuel hatred and violence toward them."
