A government plan to reopen the border crossing with Egypt could allow Israelis to visit the Sinai Peninsula during the Passover holiday next week, Hebrew media reported on Monday.
The Taba Border Crossing has been closed since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, except for brief occasions when Israelis with special permission have been allowed to re-enter.
Israel's tourism, interior, and health ministries have agreed on two possible dates for the reopening of the passage, Channel 12 News reported on Monday, without citing a source.
One possible date was Thursday, March 25 – as Blue and White wants – and the other would be Monday, March 29.
The new regulations will allow a maximum of 320 people to return to Israel each day.
Travelers will need to register online and take a PCR test up to 72 hours before travel, and one on return. No private vehicle will be allowed to cross.
