"The IDF and the Air Force already have a variety of intelligence-gathering capabilities, but the Oron strengthens our superiority and our ability to operate in the second and third tiers and to move between fronts rapidly and over a long period of time," IAF Commander Maj. Gen. Amikam Norkin said in a statement.
The second tier refers to countries that do not border Israel but are considered enemy states, such as Iraq and Yemen that host Iranian proxy groups, while the third tier refers to states located even further, such as Iran.
The plane was developed by the Defense Ministry's Directorate of Research and Development, the IAF, Military Intelligence Directorate, the Navy and Israel Aerospace Industries, an IDF spokesperson said.

The Oron is equipped with a sophisticated automatic learning system that is based on an advanced algorithm and AI, and will permit the various branches of the IDF to strengthen its intelligence-gathering superiority.
The aircraft is apparently based on the Gulfstream G550 Aerospace business jet and has been outfitted with a throng of sensors and data collection equipment that allows it to rapidly locate targets in all weather conditions, according to one of its creators.
