The campaign to vaccinate Palestinian workers employed in Israel is nearing completion. About 110,000 workers have received the first dose, and about 85,000 have already received the second. The vast majority of the workers are in the construction sector, meaning that not only will their vaccination protect their own health – it will also reduce the spread of the pandemic and ensure the sector's viability.

The vaccination drive began a month-and-a-half ago and was completed this week. It was carried out jointly by the Ministry of Health, Magen David Adom, the Israeli Civil Administration, the Workers' Union (Histadrut), the Israel Builders Association, the Construction and Allied Industries Workers Union, and the Foundation for the Encouragement and Development of the Construction Industry in Israel.

Due to the operation's logistical complexity, it was almost canceled at the last minute because of a lack of funds needed to recruit the required manpower. The Foundation for the Encouragement and Development of the Construction Industry, in collaboration with the Israel Builders Association and the General Workers' Union, acted quickly to raise the funds needed to hire ushers, who were deployed to eight checkpoints throughout the country to conduct the process safely and efficiently.

The Foundation for the Development of the Construction Industry wrote in a statement: "This operation reflects the Foundation's policy of equal treatment of the entire workers' population. We aim to benefit the industry and to promote the professionality, safety, health, and welfare of the workers, regardless of sex, race, or religion."
