The chargers will be installed in parking lots, shopping malls, along highways and in other public areas.
The financial commitment to Israel's charging infrastructure adds on to an earlier investment of NIS 30 million ($9.4 million) to deploy 2,500 charging stations by the end of the year, including 100 rapid charge platforms.
Global accounting and consulting firm BDO recently told The Media Line news agency that Israel's lack of charging infrastructure is holding the country back from being a world leader in the scaling up of electric vehicles.
BDO projects electric car sales in Israel will double this year to 19,000 with 215,000 EVs forecasted to be on the roads within the next four years.
Israel's electric vehicle market accounts for 5.5% of all vehicles sold.
One Israeli company is pioneering a solution to EV charging that doesn't require physical stations at all.
Former president Reuven Rivlin was recently hired as president of electric vehicle wireless charging company ElectReon.
ElectReon was founded in 2013 with the goal to eliminate fossil fuels dependence. They specialize in wireless charging technology for electric transportation with the wireless charging system embedded in public roads, allowing drivers to power up without the need to stop the vehicle for recharging the battery.
