Thousands of sardines can be seen each night in the shallow waters of Eilat as of late, followed by stingrays. Cuttlefish and lionfish – that feed on sardines – have also been seen on the coast.

Eilat's allure can be attributed to its sandy habitat, unlike the coral reefs that lie in the other parts of the Gulf of Aqaba. A simple flashlight makes it possible to see the sardines at night.
The Sharks in Israel, an environmental conservation organization, said that stingrays reach the shallow waters of Eilat at night in pursuit of the sardines, and can easily be observed from the shores.
