The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps recently used an upgraded version of the Karrar tank, which Iran has claimed to be among the most advanced. It is based on the Soviet T-72 tank, but with new technology.

The Iranian Tasnim news agency reported earlier in December that the tank "has come into service in Payambar-e Azam 17 ('The Great Prophet') war game, along Iran's southern coasts." The report further claimed that this new version is "equipped with a camouflage system that provides concealment against thermal infrared radar detection."
The tank also has, according to the new site, an "electro-optical fire control system, laser rangefinder, ballistic computer, and ability to fire at fixed and mobile targets during daytime and at night" and can fire "highly precise" missiles that are guided by laser.
According to Jane's Defence Weekly, the upgrades mainly involve major modifications to the turret and thicker frontal armor.
Back in 2017, Iran claimed that it was on par with the most advanced tanks in the world, and then-Iranian defense minister said it has superb abilities to counter antitank missiles.
