Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's niece Farideh Moradkhani has reportedly been arrested over her alleged support for the former regime that was toppled in the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

According to her brother and activists her arrest was carried out this week, months after she participated in an event in honor of the widow of the ousted shah, or king, of pre-1979 Iran.

Farideh Moradkhani in the past was described as an activist calling for abolishing the death penalty in the republic. Her brother Mahmoud Moradkhani told the London-based Iran International TV on Sunday, "We are very worried, we did not have news."
According to the brother, she is in the notorious Evin Prison, run by the Intelligence Ministry. Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) claimed she was grabbed by security forces while making her way home and reportedly also had her home searched.
