Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and former IDF chief of staff Gadi Eizenkot have discussed the country's security situation in recent weeks, amid a persistent wave of Palestinian terrorism that has claimed 19 lives.

According to a source close to the prime minister, Bennett sought to consult Eizenkot on the matter, as well as the Iranian nuclear threat.
"The prime minister holds consultations on security issues from time to time with various parties, including former senior officials," the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement.
Eizenkot declined to comment.
Last week, Bennett said the past year had been a "turning point" in Israel's strategy vis-à-vis Iran.
Eizenkot, for his part, intends to enter the political arena with a Knesset run in the next election, Channel 13 reported last Wednesday.

He is expected to make a public announcement to that effect should Bennett's teetering coalition collapse and the Knesset dissolve.
Eizenkot, who served as IDF chief from 2015 to 2019, is reportedly in talks to join the centrist Yesh Atid party headed by Foreign Minister and Alternate Prime Minister Yair Lapid.
