A mysterious explosion in the city of Beitunia outside Ramallah led Palestinian security forces to the discovery of 8 kilograms of explosives, Channel 12 News reported Tuesday.

According to the Palestinian Authority, the explosives were located in an explosive laboratory operated by Hamas and to be used against the Mukata'a [the Palestinian headquarters in Ramallah], Palestinian TV, and senior PA officials, according to the Channel 12 News report.
Palestinian security forces arrested around five suspects, all of whom were Hamas operatives, in connection with the explosives lab. Among those arrested was Saleh Arouri, a relative of a senior Hamas official.
In recent weeks, Palestinian security forces have been carrying out increasing arrests of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad members active primarily in the Nablus and Ramallah areas.
