"Our number one goal is the release of hostages," Macron stated alongside President Isaac Herzog, after meeting the families of the abductees. "The terror that was done here was a shock to humanity," he said referring to the murderous onslaught by Hamas on southern Israel on Oct. 7.

"Hamas carried out one of the worst horrors in history," the president added, also warning that "Hezbollah and Iran are playing with fire."
Macron later met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials, and will travel to Ramallah to meet with Palestinian leaders as well.
At least 30 French nationals were killed in the Oct. 7 attack, and seven are missing, including a confirmed hostage and several others probably held by Hamas in Gaza.
Macron previously indicated a trip to the region would be "useful," which the French presidency described as "1 – to bring solidarity to Israel 2 – to make very clear commitments against terrorist groups 3 – to reopen a political perspective."
