With singer Raviv Kaner performing a rendition of "My Golani" – the anthem of the famous infantry brigade – hundreds bid farewell to Major Moshe Avram Bar-On, who was killed in action in Gaza on Tuesday in one of the worst incidents of the ground war against Hamas, which was launched after the terrorist group launched its unprecedented terrorist attack on Israel by murdering some 1,200 civilians and soldiers in the south.

While he sang, Bar-On's mother, wrapped in a Golani flag, his father and sisters sang with him in tears.
Major Bar-On was among the ten fighters who fell when they cleared a building in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood of Gaza on Tuesday. Seven Golani soldiers and three others from the 669 rescue unit were killed in the incident.

Brig. Gen. Baruch Shpigel, formerly commander of the Golani Brigade, eulogized at the funeral: "The soldiers who defended the state in the early days are the ones who saved it. Were it not for their success and bravery we would be in a much worse situation. These heroes saved the state. I met Moshe and his platoon two weeks before the war in the Golan Heights. There we said the Golanis always need to be ready because you never know when a war will occur. And two weeks later it happened. The second time I met him was in preparation for entering Gaza. I was very impressed by his leadership and motivation. He was a hero."
