Walters said in the visit, "The Holocaust was humanity's darkest hour in history. We must ensure it does not repeat itself. Britain is committed to safeguarding the security of the Jewish community; there is no place for antisemitism, and we are committed to stopping it."
Yigal Cohen, CEO of the Ghetto Fighters' House Museum, said, "The Holocaust is a historical event. It is our duty to continue to remember and commemorate for future generations in Israel and around the world, so that we can look to the past as a warning and contemplate it as a source of inspiration for creating a moral, humane, and compassionate society. It is a great privilege to host ambassadors and diplomats from around the world at the Ghetto Fighters House. I thank Ambassador Simon Walters and the British Embassy team for choosing to tour with us on the International Holocaust Remembrance Day."
Walters also visited the Matte Asher Operation Room and met with Moshe Davidovich, the head of Matte Asher Regional Council and chairman of the Conflict Zone Forum.
Davidovich and other local officials gave the ambassador an overview on the security and civil situation in the area due to the escalation in the north.
Walters said, "In the past three months attention was given to the Gaza envelope area, but people of northern Israel should also get the attention they deserve. It is a significant challenge to these communities, and we are committed, alongside our partners, to find a political solution to the situation, which is preferable to a military solution. Israeli people, north to south, must be able to live safely and securely".
Davidovich said, "We were pleased to host the British Ambassador to Israel at our council's headquarters and show him up close what the situation looks like in the north and along the border communities. I briefed him on the "Conflict Zone Forum", the displaced residents, and the conditions on the ground: missiles, tunnels, and gunfire occurring every day. I emphasized that our residents will only return home when they feel safe and are assured, they can live without fear, with Hezbollah kept away from the border".
