A shocking terror attack was carried out this morning (Sunday) near the Nabi Elias junction on Highway 55 in Samaria, the northern West Bank. A Palestinian terrorist opened fire from the side of the road at a passing civilian vehicle and bus, hitting two people.
A 19-year-old young woman was seriously wounded by gunfire to her shoulder. A 50-year-old man was lightly-to-moderately injured by shrapnel. Both victims were evacuated to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba for emergency medical treatment.
The bus continued driving until the Karnei Shomron settlement, where the seriously injured teenager received initial care before being rushed to the hospital. The vehicle with the lightly wounded driver also continued until the Eliyahu checkpoint before he was transported for treatment.
"We arrived on the scene with a large team. We boarded the bus and found the young woman seated and fully conscious but suffering a gunshot wound to her shoulder," Magen David Adom emergency paramedic Asaf Ailkashi said in a statement. "We provided her with life-saving medical care and evacuated her in serious condition by intensive care ambulance to the hospital while she remained conscious."
Large Israeli military forces have been scrambled to the area around the shooting site near Nabi Elias. The terrorist has been identified and is being pursued, with IDF troops encircling the nearby Palestinian village as the manhunt is underway. Highway 55 has been blocked in both directions as the investigation and search continues.
