'Everyone knew a teacher was sleeping with students'

Police complaints and school community warnings failed to prevent a Petach Tikva teacher's sexual misconduct with students, highlighting systemic failures in protecting minors from predatory educators within the Israeli education system.

Students at a Petach Tikva school describe witnessing months of inappropriate behavior by their English teacher with male classmates, including smoking sessions during breaks and private messaging, before discovering she had invited students to her home for sexual encounters while her husband served in military reserves.

"'Everyone knew a teacher was sleeping with students; everyone knew something was happening, we used to laugh about her excessive closeness to students. We would see her smoking with them during breaks, behaving like a teenager. At some point everything came out, we knew she slept with students, and it exploded. She left the school." These words capture the atmosphere at the Petach Tikva schoo,l where it was revealed that the teacher had sexual relations with two boys in 11th grade.

Central to the scandal is an English teacher who taught for nine years in middle schools grades 8-9 in Petach Tikva, who was accused and confessed to inappropriate behavior. According to the allegations, she began establishing contact with the boys starting in September 2024, which eventually led to sexual relations.

The teacher corresponded with three minor boys from the school where she teaches through private messages and social networks, and even smoked cigarettes with them at school. Last January she invited three of her students, 17-year-old boys from 11th grade, to her home in a well-known neighborhood in the city, where she had sexual relations with two of the students simultaneously – while a third student was present at the location and witnessed what happened.

According to reports, the parents of the student who witnessed the sexual acts filed a complaint with police, but the complaint was closed. Another student added, "The teachers would talk among themselves about the case and there were always rumors, even some of the close parents knew about it – but no one updated the school community or the students. Obviously this is a private case, and many are in shock."
