As Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his 75th birthday on Wednesday, X lit up with #HappyBirthdayModiJi posts, some drawing striking comparisons to Benjamin Netanyahu, casting both as unwavering leaders navigating their nations through turbulent times.

The hashtag #HappyBirthdayModiji exploded across X (formerly Twitter), amassing millions of impressions in the past 24 hours.

From heartfelt tributes by celebrities and politicians to satirical jabs and poetic odes, the platform became a digital birthday card for the man often hailed as India's transformative force.

Amid the flood of over 100,000 posts since September 16, a fascinating undercurrent emerged: references to Israel and explicit comparisons to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, underscoring Modi's global stature as a resolute leader in turbulent times.

The broader wave of birthday wishes painted a polarized yet predominantly celebratory portrait. Top posts buzzed with admiration for Modi's decade-plus tenure, with some going overboard, trying to cast the often controversial leader as having zero scams, modest living, and patriotic fervor, all but ignoring the various ethnic clashes under his watch and the various other efforts that have allegedly sidelines non-Hindi indians.

The Modi-Netanyahu partnership traces back to Modi's early admiration for Israel's innovation and security model. In 2014, shortly after Modi's election victory, Netanyahu personally congratulated him, setting the tone for collaboration. Modi reciprocated with his groundbreaking 2017 visit to Israel – the first by an Indian PM – where the duo bonded over shared experiences of terrorism (referencing the 2008 Mumbai attacks) and economic ambition. Netanyahu's 2018 trip to India further solidified this, with announcements on defense investments and agricultural tech like drip irrigation.

One viral entry from @Saravana_2785 tallied his "achievements" – 13 years as Gujarat CM, 11 as PM, a 900 sq ft home bought for ₹1 lakh in 2002 – with zero favors to family or property scandals," garnering 12,573 likes and 169,215 views.

Yet, not all were saccharine. Critics laced wishes with irony, dubbing the day #NationalUnemploymentDay. @MrDemocratic_'s skull-emoji "Happy Birthday" post snagged 1,263 likes, mocking unfulfilled job promises, while @NitinDThorat1 quipped about the government's "guarantee" devouring 2 crore jobs annually. Follow-back ploys, like @ArunKosli7's call to action (5,617 likes), and niche religious plugs rounded out the eclectic mix, blending nationalism, spirituality, and snark.

The posts in the last day explicitly invoked the ties with Israel, often framing Modi as a kindred spirit to Netanyahu amid shared themes of security and defiance. India-Israel relations, bolstered by defense pacts and tech collaborations since Modi's 2017 visit, provide fertile ground for such analogies. The standout comparison came from @vishalnautamlal, who declared: "Like our Best friendIsrael under PM #Netanyahu our Bharat [India] is in safe hands of Hon'ble PM @narendramodi." Urging two more terms to "eliminate Jihad," the post positions both leaders as bulwarks against existential threats – Netanyahu against Hamas, Modi against demographic shifts – echoing right-wing narratives of unyielding resolve.

@premsinhamit doubled down in a multi-photo post, tagging @netanyahu alongside global figures like @POTUS and @DarthPutinKGB, wishing Modi eternal life for national service: "यूँ ही कोई मोदी नहीं बन जाता? मोदीजी आप चिरायु हो और देश की सेवा में योगदान देते रहें। जय भारत।" (3 views, 1 like), framing Modi as a peer to Netanyahu in the pantheon of enduring statesmen. @108Siddhapeeth reiterated their devotional tagline—"Om Namah Shivay 🙏 #HappyBirthdayModiji #Israel"—with a serene photo, evoking spiritual ties between Hindu and Jewish resilience (27 views, 1 like).

One user praised the two leaders for fighting against terrorism around the world:

"That's it ! Hit them where it hurts ! They will release hostages by themselves ! Bomb all nations hosting terror breeding pigs and running terror television channels ! Bibi @netanyahu is fire 🔥 ! 57 nations have their pants wet ! We don't care about Arab or white supremacy ! Harm to Israel is harm to this Universe ! Harm to India is harm to this world ! @narendramodi ji and @netanyahu are like eyes to this world in erasing terror ! Happy Gregorian birthday to Modiji - although his Vedic star of Anuradha will come later ! 5 million years old Vedic culture provided shelter to our Jews ! Jai Hind! Jai Israel !""

Echoes appeared elsewhere: @ArunaaJanghu hailed Modi as a "FEARLESS GOAT LEADER," tagging #Netanyahu and #Israel alongside #Trump and #Russia, implying a league of bold icons (24 views). @Iamanshulsaxena's thread credited Modi's diplomacy for "Israel tech links" diversifying India's footprint (48 views), while @premsinhamit tagged @netanyahu in a general plea for longevity. Even tangential nods, like @108Siddhapeeth's Shiva invocation with #Israel (26 views), hinted at symbolic solidarity.

These Israel-tinged posts, though low-engagement (under 100 views each), were nonetheless an emerging Trend in the 1.4 billion-people country.

That's it ! Hit them where it hurts !

On the geopolitical front, Modi and Netanyahu align against shared threats. Following the April 2025 Pahalgam attack in the INdian part of Kashmir that killed many and triggered a war, Netanyahu condemned it as "barbaric" and reaffirmed Israel's solidarity with India. In June 2025, amid Israel's Operation Rising Lion strikes on Iran, Netanyahu briefed Modi, who expressed India's "deep concerns" but emphasized dialogue for de-escalation. Modi has consistently supported Israel post-Hamas attacks, stating in 2023 (and reiterated in 2024 calls) that "the people of India stand firmly with Israel" and "terrorism has no place in our world." A September 2024 call urged preventing regional escalation and hostage releases.

At the core of their alliance is military and technological synergy. India imports over $1 billion in Israeli arms annually, including drones, missiles, and radar systems under Modi's "Make in India" initiative. In 2025, Netanyahu highlighted Israeli gear's role in India's Operation Sindoor, offering further aid in surveillance and counter-terrorism. Bilateral trade hit new highs, with Israel launching an e-visa for Indians in January 2025 to boost tourism.
