Buckley Carlson, the son of conservative and anti-Israel media personality Tucker Carlson, is leaving the White House to start his own political consulting firm, according to a Politico report citing two sources.
Carlson, who served as deputy press secretary to Vice President JD Vance, "first informed the vice president's office of his intention to leave as early as December, but stayed on for several months to ensure a smooth transition," a source in Vance's office said.
Last November, Vance responded sharply to a journalist who raised questions about Buckley Carlson and, in light of his family ties, asked whether "a senior adviser to the vice president is also an evil racist." In response, Vance said, "I have a special tolerance for disagreement and criticism from many people in our coalition," but added, "I am a very loyal person, and I have zero tolerance for scumbags who attack my staff. And yes, anyone who attacked Buckley is a scumbag."
The Vice President's office has not yet responded to a request from Israel Hayom for comment on the matter.
The report on Carlson's expected departure comes amid rising tensions between Trump and Tucker Carlson, Buckley's father, over the war with Iran, after Carlson tried to persuade the president not to attack the ayatollahs' regime.
At the start of the campaign, Carlson said that "this war is completely disgusting and evil." He later said that "this is the biggest mistake Trump, or any American president, has made in my lifetime," adding that "it happened because Israel wanted it to happen. This is Israel's war, not America's." He later even called on administration and military officials to refuse Trump's orders: "Now it's time to say no, absolutely not, and say it directly to the president, no."
Trump did not let Carlson's harsh remarks go unanswered. In posts the president recently published on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Carlson "is a low-IQ person." In another post, he wrote that Carlson "couldn't even get into college" and that he has been "a broken man" since being fired from Fox News, suggesting that he "should see a good psychiatrist."
