The military on Saturday said it would launch an inquest into claims of a fatal shooting of two Palestinian teens by Israeli forces during a Gaza border riot on Friday.
The Palestinians identified one of the teens as Ahmad Abu Tayoor, 16, saying only that the other victim was 17 years old. They said 200 protesters were wounded Friday at a border riot organized by Hamas.
The terrorist group that controls the Gaza Strip launched its border riot campaign on March 30. Since then, some 150 protesters have been killed.
The IDF said some 6,000 Palestinian demonstrated near the fence. Rioters rolled burning tires at the border fence and hurled stones and explosives at the troops patrolling the fence.
The troops responded with crowd control measures and sporadic live fire.
Earlier, the Palestinians released footage of Abu Tayoor's alleged shooting.
It shows the teen throwing rocks at the border fence and shouting at soldiers who were observing the incident from their position on the Israeli side of the border before being shot.
Following the video's release, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit issued a statement saying, "Violent riots erupted along the Gaza border fence on Friday. IDF soldiers responded with crowd control measures, in accordance with the rules of engagement, over attempts to breach the fence and harm our forces.
"We are familiar with the claim that two people were killed in the riots. The incidents will be investigated by the relevant commanders and the findings will be handed over for review by the IDF's General Staff," the military statement said.
Also on Friday, the IDF carried out three strikes in Gaza, one against an arson terrorist cell gearing up to send incendiary balloons over the border and two against Hamas positions in the Strip.
