Two people were lightly injured Wednesday morning during an accident that occurred during routine maintenance on a Hercules transport aircraft at the Nevatim Israeli Air Force base.
During the inspection process, the engines of the Hercules – known in Israel as the "Karnaf" (rhinocerous) – were run while the plane was grounded. The aircraft jolted forward some 100 meters (300 feet) and skidded into a ditch.
Two civilians suffered minor injuries and were evacuated for medical treatment.
The IAF has opened an investigation into the incident.
