The Knesset chose a new state comptroller on Monday, siding with Matanyahu Englman, the preferred choice of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government.
Englman has been criticized by some for saying comptrollers should not be too keen on investigating everything, but others said that the comptrollers should exercise restraint and avoid overstepping their mandate.
Giora Rom, the chairman of the National Road Safety Authority and former director of the Civil Aviation Authority, was the other candidate. He was considered the opposition's candidate.
