Iraqi Shiite groups blamed Israel for a drone strike near the Syrian border on Sunday and accused the United States of providing air support to Israel. Israel has made no comment.

The strike, carried out near the town of Al-Qa'im in Iraq, killed the official responsible for the missile program of one of the Iran-backed Shiite militias in Iraq, Iraqi news outlets reported Monday.

In the past, Mohssen has fought with Shiite militias in Syria. At one point, he was captured by US forces, but released. Thousands attended his funeral in a Baghdad suburb.

The PMF said that two unidentified drones killed two Iraqi members of an Iran-backed paramilitary force in Anbar province near the Qaim border crossing with Syria. It said the attack targeted vehicles belonging to the Hezbollah Brigades faction, also known as Brigade 45.

Two officials from the Hezbollah Brigades, which is separate from the Lebanese Hezbollah organization, confirmed the attack and said the vehicles were being used to transport weapons.
