A Hezbollah official confirmed the death of Ali Hatoum and told Reuters an investigation was under way but that it did not appear to be security related.
Lebanese media outlets reported that Hatoum, reported to be in his 40s, appeared to have been shot. As of Monday morning, it was unclear whether he committed suicide or was the target of an assassination.
According to various Lebanese reports, Hatoum had held a position that entailed providing security for members of Hezbollah's inner circle. He reportedly resigned from Hezbollah some years ago and has not been active with Hezbollah since.
