The decision was made just hours before the ambassador's term was to expire Tuesday night.

Earlier, reports suggested that Netanyahu decided not to extend Danon's term, as it had already been extended by six months in the summer of 2019.
According to Channel 12 News, Danon was to be replaced by his deputy, Noa Furman, until a permanent appointment was made.
Netanyahu is leading an interim government and therefore asked Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit if he could make a permanent appointment, but the latter has yet to give him an answer.
Public Security and Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan was deemed as a leading candidate for the role but has reportedly turned it down after previously rejecting the role during the summer as well.
Science and Technology Minister Ofir Akunis, for his part, has made it clear that he would be willing to take the reigns if offered to him, Channel 12 News reported. "If I receive an offer, I will consider it positively," he said.
