Israeli forces thwarted a major shipment of arms to the Gaza Strip by sea in a secret operation several weeks ago, the Israel Defense Forces revealed on Wednesday.

Muhammad Bachar, a key figure who has been actively involved in smuggling arms to terrorists in the Gaza Strip, was detained during the raid. The interdicted arm shipment was meant for Hamas' naval commando forces, the IDF said.

The raid was conducted after intelligence gathering undertaken by the Shin Bet security agency and the IDF Intelligence Directorate led to the pinpointing of the smuggler.
