The Abba Eban Institute for International Diplomacy and International Institute for Counter-Terrorism at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya, together with the European Leadership Network, a non-governmental organization the stated mission of which is "to strengthen relations between Europe and Israel," have launched a campaign urging all EU members to designate Hezbollah a terrorist group.

Hezbollah has been designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, including the US, the UK, Canada, Germany, Estonia, Guatemala, Argentina, Paraguay and Israel, as well as Arab League member Bahrain. Some countries, such as Australia and France, only classify Hezbollah's military wing as a terrorist organization.

As part of the campaign, the organizations have launched a  website in five languages, presenting information on Hezbollah's nefarious activities in Lebanon and in the drug trade in many countries around the world.

Former Israeli Ambassador to the UN Ron Prosor, who heads the AEI, and other high ranking officials in the three organizations will also meet with decision-makers in several European countries.

"Given the very clear statements of France's president against extremist Islam in recent days, we recognize an opportunity to bring about change in [French] policy," Prosor said.

"Germany has already designated Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, meaning France is currently the second-most important country in the EU that needs to do so."

The campaign, which includes extensive use of social media, will also be launched in Greece, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Belgium, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Brazil, Chile, and more.
