Madison Cawthorn, the 25-year-old Republican candidate who stirred controversy after visiting Adolf Hilter's vacation home in 2017, won elections to the House of Representatives for North Carolina's 11th district on Tuesday.
The young Republican had referred to Hitler as "the Fuhrer" and "a supreme evil" in Instagram posts, which caused a backlash. Cawthorn removed the posts in August after a Jezebel article condemning the posts, but later put them back up.
The Jewish mayor of Asheville, Esther Manheimer expressed concern over "his failure to recognize the gravity of his actions."
