An investigation by the Israel Police revealed Thursday that multiple felons affiliates with major crime families have been systematically violating the provisions of their house arrest by hacking into the Israel Prison Service's electronic monitoring system. Five suspects have been indicted in the case.

The investigation found that members of the crime families allegedly bribed an employee of the company that provides technical services for the IPS monitoring system, to change the data so as not to trigger IPS alerts when the felons in question removed the ankle bracelets monitoring their movements and left their homes.
As such, they were able to commit crimes while having the alibi of ostensibly being under house arrest.
Police sources said that the hack was revealed as part of an ongoing effort to combat crimes committed by employees of companies that provide third-party service to the police.
