The Pentagon is concerned that Iran could take advantage of the presidential transition and US troop withdrawals from Iraq and Afghanistan to stage terrorist attacks against US targets int he Middle East, Politico magazine reported Thursday,
According to the report, the US military is on heightened alert and shoring up its forces in the Middle East to respond to a potential Iranian attack.

Specifically, the Pentagon is closely watching "troubling indicators of potential attack preparations" from Iranian militias in Iraq, the report said.
