A US federal court of appeals ruled Monday that coronavirus limits on houses of worship in New York are an infringement of religious freedom, JTA reported.

The ruling comes after Christian and Jewish religious groups joined forces to appeal against New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's alleged discriminatory policy in areas with rising COVID-19 infections.
The decision followed a Supreme Court injunction last month that froze Cuomo's authority to enforce state guidelines, which limit synagogue attendance to 10 or 25 individuals, until the lower court evaluated the case.
The appeal was filed by the Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn and Agudath Israel of America, an NGO representing ultra-Orthodox Jews in the US.
Agudath Israel of America's executive vice president Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel commended the ruling, saying "The courts have clearly recognized that the restrictions imposed by New York State violate the constitutional rights of those seeking to attend religious worship services."
