A Hezbollah-affiliated hacker group, known as "The Cedars of Lebanon," carried out a cyberattack against a slew of Israeli firms as well as telecommunication and Internet service provider companies in the US, UK and the Middle East, Kan 11 News reported Thursday.

The group used vulnerabilities identified on servers of software giants Oracle and Atlasian, according to Kan.
A study by ClearSky, a cybersecurity company, revealed the extensive activities of the cyber unit linked to Hezbollah.
The hackers reportedly managed to encroach into systems and databases of hundreds of companies around the world.

This information contains sensitive data about customers and in the case of telecom companies, it can even be assumed that they managed to access databases that include call records, the report said.

The report further mentioned countries such as the United States, Britain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates – including the Palestinian Authority – as targets of the cyber group.
"The intrusion into these systems was probably carried out by exploiting known vulnerabilities in the systems... in Oracle servers and detecting vulnerabilities using open source-based network hacking tools," researchers of ClearSky noted.
