"If the world stops them [Iran] before, it's very much good," Gantz said. "But if not, we must stand independently and we must defend ourselves by ourselves."
Last week, US forces attacked pro-Iranian fighters in Syria in retaliation for rockets fired by Houthi rebels toward the US Embassy in Baghdad.
Israel also faces hundreds of thousands of rockets from Hezbollah in Lebanon, Gantz said. He handed Fox News' Trey Yingst a classified map of rockets launching sites and Hezbollah command posts, many of which are located in civilian areas along the Lebanon-Israel border.

"Everything [they have] is directed at civilian targets and is being conducted from civilian infrastructure," he said.
"This is a target map. Each one of them has been checked legally, operationally, intelligence-wise, and we are ready to fight," he said.
