Kantar Media's Target Group Index survey, which reviewed annual media consumption during the first six months of 2021, found that Israel Hayom had an average daily readership of 31.5% of the general population, compared to Yedioth Ahronoth's 25.4%.
Reviewing readership for newspapers' weekend editions, TGI found that Israel Hayom's market exposure grew from 23.1% in the first half of 2020 to 32.5% across January-June 2021, compared to Yedioth's Ahronoth's 30.8%.
An annual comparison further cemented Israel Hayom's lead, with a weekday market share of 27.0% compared to only 22.9% for Yedioth Ahronoth.
It should be noted that during the peak of coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions posed on the public as part of the efforts to battle morbidity in 2020, there was a decrease in the consumption of the printed press in Israel. As the economy resumed activities during the first few months of 2021, there was an increase media consumptions through the printed press.
Kantar Media noted that gap between the two newspapers on the weekdays was statistically clear on both the annual the semi-annual levels. On weekends, however, the gap between the two is not statistically significant.
Measuring new radio consumption, TGI found that on average, 61.5% of Israelis consumed their news via the radio, a drop from 65.7% during the same period last year.
