Mouafak Al D., a suspected member of a Palestinian armed group affiliated with the Syrian regime, the Free Palestine Movement, is charged with seven counts of murder and three counts of assault, the federal prosecutor's office in Karlsruhe said.
Fighting on behalf of Bashar Assad's regime, he allegedly threw a grenade on March 23, 2014, at a group of civilians, killing at least seven people and injuring at least three, including a six-year-old child.
They were residents of the Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp, located on the outskirts of Damascus, who had come to seek aid distributed by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The Syrian regime had besieged the camp between July 2013 and April 2015, causing a terrible "lack of water, food and medical care," recalled the prosecution.
Before joining the FPM, the accused allegedly belonged to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command, a Palestinian organization close to the Syrian regime.
