The Border Police said the officer, 20, sustained serious injuries to his head and abdomen and was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where he is said to be in stable condition.
A police dog was killed in the attack, the statement said,
The troops engaged the driver, identified as Qalandia resident Salah Nazel, 22. He hit a wall and sustained a head injury and was taken to Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital in the capital where he is said to be in moderate condition.
He was interrogated by the Shin Bet security agency, Israeli media reported.
"This attack is another reminder of the threats that exist in every operational activity," said Jerusalem District Police Commander Doron Turgeman.
"The key is to neutralize any threat immediately and prevent harm to human life. In this case, too, the quick response and operational deployment of the troops on the ground led to a speedy end to the incident. We must keep active with determination against any attempt to harm security forces or Israeli civilians."
In another incident that took place on Wednesday, an IDF soldier and officer sustained minor injuries after an Israeli civilian used pepper spray to assaulted them near the settlement Adi in Samaria.
Both received medical treatment at the scene, the IDF said.
The incident occurred after Israeli forces were called to the scene amid reports of a "nationalist incident," Channel 12 News reported.
According to the report, settlers attacked a Palestinian with pepper spray then attacked the soldiers.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi condemned the recent series of settler attacks against Israeli troops, saying, "Crime against IDF soldiers on the part of civilians is intolerable," and adding that such cases must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
