The African Union On Wednesday said that it suspended Sudan from the bloc over the "unconstitutional" seizure of power by the military.

The pan-African body said that it was suspending Sudan from all AU activities until "the effective restoration of the civilian-led transitional authority," The Guardian reported.
Sudanese Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan ordered on Monday the dissolution of the government, which was steering the country towards elections, and declared a state of emergency that sparked international uproar.
Military forces arrested Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, as well as several ministers and civilian members of Sudan's ruling council on Monday.
A prominent pro-democracy group subsequently called on Sudanese to take the streets of Sudan's capital Khartoum to resist the military coup.
