Clashes erupted at the Western Wall Wednesday when the Women of the Wall, accompanied by Knesset Constitution Committee Chairman Gilad Kariv, the former head of the Israeli Reform movement, held a prayer on the premises, where egalitarian prayer is barred.

The Western Wall Heritage Foundation said the clashes constituted "violence the likes of which has never been seen" on the site and accused Kariv of provoking unrest, while he accused them of waging "a shameless PR campaign against MKs."
The past few weeks have seen liberal groups in Israel and worldwide lambaste Prime Minister Naftali Bennett for saying that his government will not pursue the egalitarian prayer plan at the Western Wall. The plan was shelved several years ago over the ultra-Orthodox parties' objections.
