Former president and convicted rapist Moshe Katsav gave his first interview since being released from prison in December 2016 – after serving five years of a seven-year sentence – surprisingly to an Iranian television station affiliated with the London-based opposition to the ayatollah regime.

The Iranian-born Katsav, originally named Musa Qassab, immigrated with his family to Israel at the age of five.
"I was a year old when we left Yazd, [after which] we lived in Teheran for four years," Katsav said in the promo for the interview, which will be broadcast on the Persian language television station Iran International next Sunday at 10 p.m. Israel-time. In parts of the interview, Israel's former president speaks in Hebrew, in other parts in Farsi.
"Iran became a destructive force to peace in our region but I still believe that one day we [Israel] will return to having friendly relations with Iran," he said.
