According to German media, the move is linked to the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has sparked the German government's interest in Israel's Iron Dome short-range defense system and the Arrow ballistic missile defense system.
DPA said the delegation comprises Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, of the centrist Free Democratic Party (FDP) who chairs the Bundestag's Defense Committee.
Chairwoman of the Bundestag Defense Committee, Dr. Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann said during her visit to Israel: "It is unimaginable to see a tunnel being built here for five years with the purpose of attacking Israel. It's a miracle that it was uncovered by Israel but also warns us that the enemy of the free world will stop at nothing to attack peace and these countries. We just need to know that, especially those who are naive enough to believe that nothing is happening.
"I am glad I have finally managed to come to Israel since Covid has prevented me from doing so for so long, and I am thankful that ELNET made this happen. Visiting Israel is extremely important. In addition, we seek to develop a close relationship with the defense sector in Israel in order to understand what Israel discovers, how it handles problems, and the kind of presence they have in the country.
"I'm taking a lot home, especially since we are in a situation where we are experiencing a war in Europe for the first time in many years, and Germany must confront it and ensure the country's security. We can learn a lot from the Israelis and would like to collaborate more."
The visit was hosted by NGO ELNET Europe-Israel.
