Renowned Canadian Jewish conductor Boris Brott died Tuesday after a hit and run in Hamilton, province of Ontario, media outlets reported.

Brott, 78 at the time of his death, was hospitalized in critical condition and died of his injuries shortly after.
One of the most internationally recognized Canadian conductors, Brott was the recipient of countless awards and was the artistic director of the Orchestre classique de Montréal. He was also the founder and artistic director of the National Academy Orchestra of Canada and the Brott Music Festival.
"It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of the one and only musical genius and Canadian artistic visionary Boris Brott," the festival said in an Instagram post. "He will be sorely missed by all who appreciated his unsurpassed talent and by those who loved him."
The driver was arrested shortly after the incident.
