Thousands of Etsy sellers announced a weeklong strike on Monday, citing the website's decision to increase the transaction fee for sellers from 5% to 6.5%, NPR reported.

Josh Silverman the CEO of the American e-commerce company focused on handmade or vintage items and craft supplies, announced earlier this year that starting April 11 the company would increase its transaction fee for sellers in order to "fund improvements in marketing and seller tools."
In response, Etsy sellers, fed up with the various costs imposed by the platform, banded together and called on their customers to stop using the website for one week in protest. According to the report, over 5,000 shops pledged have already said they would take part in the process.
"Etsy has become a downright hostile place for authentic small businesses to operate. For both full-time and part-time sellers alike, the changes on Etsy have brought many of us to the brink of financial ruin," the artists wrote in a letter to Silverman.
