The malfunction occurred on one of the busiest days of the year, with hundreds of thousands of Israelis flying to celebrate the Festival of Freedom abroad. It was not immediately clear what caused the failure.
Passengers are expected to receive their luggage in the next few days, although, some will have to go without their belongings for a significant portion of the holiday.
The pre-Passover period is always the busiest at the airport, with as many as 70,000 Israelis expected to travel through daily.
The Israel Airports Authority issued a statement, warning passengers of the delays and asking them to prepare accordingly and exhibit patience while the matter was being handled.
