Three soldiers were killed and three others wounded in a missile attack on western and central Syria Sunday night, the Syrian military said in a statement, attributing the attack to Israel.

The military said several positions in the coastal province of Tartus and suburbs of the capital Damascus – close to Russia's main Syrian bases on the Mediterranean coast – were targeted and that the missiles were fired by warplanes flying over neighboring Lebanon. There was some material damage as well.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition group, also reported on Sunday's attacks, saying the raids targeted an air defense base in Tartus, where Iranian-backed groups are active.
The site in Tartus is located 5 miles from a Russian base, said the monitor, which has a wide network of sources in Syria. It said ambulances had rushed to the scene of the raids.
The IAF did not respond to the allegations, which is the Israeli military's policy with regard to such reports.
In July, Syria blamed another airstrike in Damascus, in which three soldiers were killed, on Israel.
