Three days after troops killed hostages Yotam Haim, Samar Talalka and Alon Lulu Shamriz after they were mistaken for terrorists, the IDF discovered footage obtained from a camera on a dog sent by the army's Oketz K9 unit toward the building were they had been found. In the recording, screams in Hebrew can be heard: "Save us", "Hostages", "Alon and Yotam". According to the IDF investigation, soldiers heard the calls but interpreted them as an attempt to mislead them.

The new details were discovered two days ago, when the GoPro camera attached to the dog was retrieved. The dog was killed in clash between a Golani reconnaissance unit and terrorists in the same neighborhood several days earlier, on December 10, when the dog was sent to locate terrorists inside the building where the hostages were ultimately shot and killed. In the camera, which was only found on December 18, the calls that were misinterpreted by the soldiers can be heard.

It appears that the terrorists holding the three hostages were killed during the clash on December 10th that killed the dog, allowing the hostages to escape. The video found by the IDF does not show the hostages, only their voices can be heard. The IDF chief of staff instructed investigators to investigate the footage as part of the overall inquiry into the mishap. The families have been updated on the details.
