Basketball Ireland said in a statement that the refusal stemmed from "inflammatory and wholly inaccurate accusations of antisemitism made by Israeli players and coaching staff."
Ahead of the game, the Israeli Basketball Association published an interview with player Dor Saar, in which she said, "It's known that they are quite antisemitic, and it's no secret; maybe that's why a strong game is expected."
In protest, the Irish team did not partake in traditional pre-match arrangements with the Israeli players, such as the handshake, and lined up for the Irish national anthem by our bench, rather than center court."
Israel won the game 87-57.
