Prominent WWE wrestler Rami Sebei, professionally known as Sami Zayn, has escalated his criticisms of Israel, primarily since Oct. 7. Previously known for expressing pro-Palestinian views, Sebei's recent actions suggest a significant intensification of his campaign, moving toward an overtly antisemitic stance.
An investigation by the US Algemeiner Journal delves into the severity of Sebei's remarks. He has followed and often "liked" an account that says Israel as akin to an "organized crime mafia" and has actively supported social media content that vehemently opposes Israel's existence. For instance, on March 15, Sebei liked a user who compared the slogan "Am Yisrael Chai" to ideologies associated with genocide, revealing his controversial stance to over 20,000 followers.
Sebei's social media interactions further include endorsements of posts labeling Zionists as bloodthirsty, along with reposts alleging Israel's execution of doctors in the Al-Shifa hospital and targeting entire Palestinian families.
According to the Algemeiner Journal, this narrative stretches back to 2021 when Sebei criticized Andrew Yang, a US presidential candidate, for defending Israel and condemning Hamas. He juxtaposed Yang's defense with the aftermath of an Israeli attack that resulted in the deaths of Palestinians.
The Algemeiner Journal noted that WWE executives declined to comment on Sebei's campaign or to facilitate a direct interview with him. This investigation comes ahead of WrestleMania 40, raising questions about whether Sebei will use the event as a platform to continue propagating his antisemitic falsehoods.
