According to a report by the Kyiv Post, Ukrainian commando forces are operating in Syria's Golan Heights. The publication disclosed a video allegedly received from Ukraine's Military Intelligence Directorate (HUR), showing what appears to be HUR's special forces units fighting alongside Syrian rebels and killing Russian mercenaries in Syria. The footage was purportedly filmed on March 24.

The report claims that HUR's "Khimik" ("Chemist") unit is working alongside the Syrian opposition, also targeting forces loyal to the Assad regime. The video was reportedly shot in the Syrian Golan Heights, where Russian mercenaries are currently concentrated, according to the outlet.

A source from the intelligence directorate stated that the Ukrainian units are attacking checkpoints, fortifications, foot patrols, and military convoys.

Russia deployed its forces to Syria in 2015 during the civil war to support the Assad regime. Since the invasion of Ukraine, Moscow has relocated some of its units from Syria to the Ukrainian battlefield. Simultaneously, Moscow has recruited Syrian mercenaries who were also sent to assist in the invasion of Ukraine. The Syrians are reportedly recruited at the Khmeimim air base and provided with Russian documentation. In May 2023, the head of Ukraine's Military Intelligence, General Kyrylo Budanov, vowed to "destroy Russian war criminals anywhere in the world." Previously, footage emerged of Ukrainian commandos operating against Wagner forces in Sudan.
