Against the backdrop of rising tensions with Iran, the US Navy destroyer Delbert D. Black arrived in Eilat ahead of the weekend and was filmed Sunday departing the port.
The destroyer is operating in the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. Delbert D. Black is an Arleigh Burke-class warship carrying a wide range of weaponry, including missiles designed to intercept ballistic missiles, Tomahawk cruise missiles and surface-to-surface missiles. It is capable of both defensive missions, such as air defense, and offensive operations.
The vessel was launched in 1991 but has seen limited operational deployment. It carries a crew of 328 sailors and is named after Admiral Delbert D. Black, who commanded the US Navy during the Vietnam War. The destroyer is 155 meters (about 509 feet) long and 20 meters (about 66 feet) wide, with a displacement of approximately 9,300 tons.
