The Energy and Infrastructure Ministry said Tuesday that the Geological Survey of Israel had reported that at 6:03 p.m., the alert system detected a seismic event, an earthquake, in southern Lebanon that was felt in northern Israel. The ministry said it was a controlled explosion.
Several hours earlier, residents of Maale Yosef Regional Council received the following message explaining the reason for the blast: "In several hours, IDF Northern Command will destroy a large weapons infrastructure that was located during the war and prepared for detonation in recent days. Communities near the blast zone will receive separate instructions. However, the echoes of the explosion may be heard throughout the Galilee and even in the Golan Heights."
The message added: "The national seismic system is being monitored, and an earthquake siren will not be activated. However, in educational institutions and private institutions that have independent earthquake warning systems, they may be activated and sirens may sound. At this stage, the incident does not affect the general protection instructions, and there is no change in the situation assessment. We will provide updates if anything changes."
