Midtown Manhattan will become the stage for a Jerusalem-focused real estate showcase on May 28, with the Jerusalem Municipality, the Israel Builders Center, and the Jerusalem Development Authority jointly organizing what organizers describe as the first event of its kind. Named "Coming Home to Jerusalem," the expo is distinguished from prior initiatives by its exclusive focus on the Israeli capital, aiming to familiarize American Jewish audiences with the dramatic pace of development and urban transformation underway across the city.
With roughly 1,000 attendees expected – drawn from across the spectrum of American Jewish life – the expo also carries symbolic weight. Amid a global surge in antisemitism, organizers are positioning Jerusalem as a foundational anchor for Diaspora Jews. Leaders of prominent US Jewish organizations will join real estate professionals to review projects encompassing thousands of housing units currently progressing through Jerusalem's construction pipeline.
The gathering centers on a development surge attributed to Mayor Moshe Lion, under whose tenure building permits have reportedly tripled and tens of thousands of housing units have been set in motion. The broader goal, as articulated by the initiative's backers, is to establish Jerusalem as a world-class urban destination offering contemporary living standards. A gala evening is planned to close the day's program, with Mayor Lion and senior Jewish community figures from New York among those slated to attend.
Eran Rols, chairman of the Israel Builders Center – the body serving as the initiative's professional lead – outlined the vision in a statement: "Every Jew in the world has two homes: the home they live in, and Jerusalem. Our goal is to make that second home an accessible reality. Jerusalem is experiencing unprecedented momentum, and we are bringing the forefront of Israel's real estate industry to Manhattan to enable the community to become an integral part of the capital's future."
